Atherton Chinatown Pig Oven Dig 2015

The century old oven was used to roast whole pigs during festivals at the Temple of Hou Wang.  Funding from the 2015 Queensland Government Heritage Grant allowed an archaeological excavation, with the aim of locating evidence for the Chinatown pig oven.  The only remaining historical link was a photo of the pig oven at Atherton Chinatown in circa 1918.

The archaeological dig ran for one week during June 2015.  Visitors to the site are welcome during regular opening times, please see Hou Wang Chinese Temple for more information on visiting hours.
